Serve Shandong’s Local Industries and Advance the Development of the Innovative Ecosystem

On the morning of July 17, 2022, a survey for the “Research on the Innovative Ecosystem in Shandong” at Qingdao West Coast New Area was conducted by experts from different departments, including SUN Zhiheng, vice chairman of the Shandong Provincial Association of Senior Scientists and Technicians, SHAO Jing, deputy director of the General Office of Shandong Provincial People’s Government, LI Jianhua, secretary general of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Committee of the Shandong Provincial Association of Senior Scientists and Technicians, CHEN Xiaoli, deputy director of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Committee of the Shandong Provincial Association of Senior Scientists and Technicians, CAO Feng, deputy director of Shandong Public Resource Trading Platform, HAN Wei, president of Shandong Provincial Academy of Innovation Strategy, GUO Zongliang, director of the Research Institute of Innovative Ecology of Shandong Provincial Academy of Innovation Strategy, and LI Pengcheng, officer of Shandong Provincial Academy of Innovation Strategy. During the survey, they visited the Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research. LIU Weidong, assistant president of the Academy, went together with the experts and made introductions about the history of the Academy.

Firstly, experts, such as vice chairman SUN Zhiheng, visited the “Sowing and Sprouting, Ripening and Harvesting—Special Exhibition of the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University” at the Design Laboratory of the International Industrial Research Department to gain in-depth insights into the working mechanism and development concept of the Academy. Assistant to President LIU Weidong highlighted to the guests the Academy’s historical heritage of the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University, and its achievements in promoting the integration of the university and city to help upgrade and develop local industries.

In the Advanced Manufacturing and Design Prototype Laboratory, the person in charge showed them intelligent manufacturing equipment and related achievements, such as 3D printers and CNC machine tools. And he underlined the Academy’s support to local enterprises, colleges and universities in terms of innovative design and practice of the results.

Subsequently, they came to the Arts and Science Experience Center to visit the international exhibition themed “Integrating Arts & Science · Creating Future With Quality” and the “Exhibition of Chinese Art and Design”, the key program of the National Key R&D Program conducted by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People´s Republic of China.

Meanwhile, both parties had honest and friendly exchanges on how to promote cooperation between the university and local industries, establish a service platform with diversified industries, and invigorate the regional economic development based on the comprehensive resources of discipline from Tsinghua University. Experts are willing to see the world-class academic highland and industrial platform take root in Qingdao West Coast New Area. SUN Zhiheng expects the Academy to play a greater role in upgrading regional industries and accumulating new momentum for high-quality development. LIU Weidong said that cooperation between the university and local industries is the key task for both Tsinghua University and Qingdao West Coast New Area. And since the Academy was established, it has devoted itself to driving the innovative development of local industries and social and economic development with high quality. As the Academy makes full use of the advantages of disciplines and the talents from Tsinghua University, it has promoted the more extensive and profound interdisciplinary and cross-industry intersection, and integration between academic achievements and local industries and has built a leading innovative demonstration base in combining and integrating major cultural technologies. By doing so, it could actually turn into an innovative engine for the transformation and development of local industries.
